If you are selling something with little to no information the first thing I think of is that the seller is hiding something. After all silence implies guilt. This is most evident when someone is selling a website. So here is some information to help you maximise your sales price.
I find it funny that something with as much tangible information as a website will be sold with a listing simply stating it makes lots of money and that the owner is selling for financial reasons. If you look on ebay you don’t see power sellers simply stating they are selling an ipod. They will list dimensions, shipping cost, product features, return policies and much more. Why? Because buyers who are confident have more chance of making the purchase and are willing to pay more than an unsure buyer.
- Income (provide proof)
- How the site generates Income
- Number of visitors
- Reason for selling
- Amount of work gone into the site
- Amount of work needed to maintain the site
- Advertising that has been done
- Your goals and growth opportunities for the site
- What the site includes (hosting, scripts etc)
- Employee information (if appropriate)
- Detailed History of the site. From how it started, growth phases to the present day.
- Offer a two-week takeover period to help along the possible new owner. This generates a lot of confidence.
So next time your site has got no bids make sure you add an much relevant information as
possible and watch confident buyers start a bidding war.

Good advice. On a similar note I think a lot of guys will refrain to list all relevent information because they have this fantasy of selling for tens of thousands of dollars. And by listing more info “reality sets in” and it’s easy to see the sale price will be a lot lower than they expect. Don’t kid yourself! Provide all available information and let the market determine what you sell for.

Thanks Schwabe. I think its the dreamers who just hope they get lucky and price thier site for way above market value hiding the relevant infomation. But people are getting more web savvy and I doubt anyone would fall for this anymore.
