So you have put the hard yards in, developed an excellent site and now its time to receive your rewards by putting it up for sale. You look around to try and find the best place to sell your site for maximum price and have chosen a web marketplace or broker. Don’t think that their customer base is the only promotion you need or that they will actively promote your site. Here are 6 tips to maximise your sales potential.

  1. Tell visitors to your site that the site is for sale. Seems obvious doesn’t it but many people don’t do it. Who would be more inclined to buy your site then someone who frequents it often. Let them know on the front page that the site is for sale and add a link to your website listing.
  2. Let everyone you know, know. If you have an email list on your site, you should be creating a special email advertising the site is for sale. If you don’t have an email list email your friends, family, colleagues, whoever but get the word out. Perhaps they may not purchase your site but they may know someone who will.
  3. Let your market know. I am not condoning spam but create a thread in relevant forums letting people in the industry know of your great site for sale. Make sure you add a link to your website listing.
  4. Classified ads. Create some free online classified ads advertising your site for sale. Probably the least targeted method but it never hurts.
  5. Get someone to blog about it. This may cost you a fee or you could make another arrangement such as a free link from your website. Get a blogger in your industry to review your site and announce it’s for sale and watch some targeted traffic come and view you sites listing.

The key is to get as many people as possible to view your site for sale. The more people who are interested the more chance of reaching that high sales price.

  1. Internet Business Broker Says:

I disagree with your strategy - it is not a good idea to let your customers or your competition know you are for sale in most cases - this can lead to lost sales and also having your financial details exposed to your competition to your negative effect.
A good broker will advertise agressively and submit to forums and relevant portals along with its subscriber base and website listing
